Instructions
In a large bowl, combine milk, water, instant yeast, sugar, salt, and flour. Mix until it starts to come together.
Add the softened butter and knead until you get a smooth, soft, non-sticky dough.
Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, until doubled in size.
Divide the dough into 16 equal pieces. Flatten each, add chocolate in the center, and seal the edges to enclose it.
Place buns on a lined baking tray and let rise for another 20 minutes.
Whisk the egg yolk with 1 tsp milk and brush over each bun. Sprinkle with crushed nuts.
Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 25–30 minutes, until deep golden-red on top.
Let cool slightly, then break open and enjoy while warm.
Notes
Store at room temperature up to 2 days, refrigerate up to 5 days, or freeze baked buns for up to 2 months.
